We will present three bridges at the Slovenian Association of Structural Engineers' assembly

A keynote speaker of this year's assembly, Marjan Pipenbaher, will speak about the construction of Pelješac Bridge. Dr. Viktor Markelj and co-authors will present the Ada Huja Bridge over the Danube, and the presentation of the bridge over the Savinja in Laško was prepared by Jernej Maher, dr. Viktor Markelj, and Rok Mlakar. All three presentations will take place on the first day of the 42nd Assembly of Slovenian Association of Structural Engineers, on October 7, 2021, in Rogaška Slatina.

Pelješac Bridge is the largest bridge construction project in South – East Europe right now. A 2.404-meter long bay bridge connect the Croatian mainland with the Pelješac Peninsula on the Adriatic coastal Motorway between Split and Dubrovnik. The traffic surface on the bridge consists of two carriageways, each with a driving and a stop lane. According to plans and works on the access roads, the first vehicles could cross it in March next year. The Pelješac bridge project was prepared by Joint Venture Pipenbaher Consulting Engineers, Ponting and University of Zagreb, Faculty of civil engineering.

The new bridge with a six-lane road and lanes for pedestrians and cyclists over the Danube near Ada Huja in Serbia will connect the city of Belgrade with the area of Pančevo. In addition to the Danube, which is over a kilometre wide and over 16 meters deep, the structure will bridge the marina in the river branch of the Danube, the Ada Huja peninsula, and a large floodplain of the river on the other side. It will be 32,5 meters wide and 3,5 kilometers long. A project team consists of DB Inženjering, Ponting and Gradis BP.

The 123 meters long bridge in Laško spans the Savinja River with two asymmetric spans of 75 and 48 meters and one river support, located outside the main watercourse on a gravel deposit formed as a hydraulic consequence of the river current flow. The construction of a new bridge, designed by Ponting, began in mid-July 2019 and opened to traffic in February 2021.

Marjan Pipenbaher (1957) is a Partner, Managing Director and a Senior Bridge designer of Ponting Bridges and Pipenbaher Consulting Engineers. Besides Pelješac Bridge, his notable bridges include Nissibi Bridge over Euphrates in Turkey (2015), Millennium Bridge in Podgorica (2006), the biggest railway viaduct in Israel (2017) and Viaduct Črni Kal in Slovenia (2004). He is a winner of many awards for his engineering expertise and a lecturer that passes the knowledge to future generations at University of Maribor.

Viktor Markelj (1958) is a Partner, Managing Director and a Senior Bridge designer of Ponting Bridges. His notable bridges include the Ada Bridge in Belgrade (2012), Puh Bridge in Ptuj (2007), Pedestrian drawbridge in Gdańsk (2017), Bridge over Mura River (2003) and viaducts Lešnica (2007, 2010). A winner of many awards for his engineering expertise and a lecturer that passes the knowledge to future generations at University of Maribor.

Rok Mlakar (1976) is a Project manager and Bridge designer of Ponting Bridges. Among the most important projects of the principal bridge engineer of the bridge over Savinja in Laško (2021) are the award-winning pedestrian bridges, namely the pedestrian drawbridge in Gdańsk (2017), Marinič Bridge in Škocjan Caves (2010) and Studenci footbridge in Maribor (2007), as well as highway bridges K1 and L211 Gleinalmtunnel in Austria (2018) and Ernest Faber Bridge in Coburg, Germany (2017).

Jernej Maher (1987) is a Bridge designer of Ponting Bridges. He participated in the project of the bridge over the Savinja in Laško (2021), railway viaduct Pesnica (under construction), bridge over the Sava in Brežice (planned) and structures on the second section of the northern part of the third development axis (planned).
