Viktor Markelj to lecture at 2nd Slovenian Cycling Congress

Ponting Bridges Director Viktor Markelj will speak about the challenges of designing bridges for cyclists and pedestrians at the 2nd Slovenian Cycling Congress on April 7, 2022. The event will take place digitally through event platform, in Slovenian language.

Ponting Bridges designed a number of bridges for cyclists and pedestrians, including the drawbridge in Gdańsk (2017), the Studenci footbridge (2007), the Tremerje Footbridge (2019), the bridge in Ptuj (1997) and the footbridge Ribja brv (2014). The overpass Sonce in Rogaška Slatina and a pair of footbridges in Novo mesto - Irča vas and Loka-Kandija - are currently under construction. In addition, planned bridges of such type include footbridge Ceršak, bridge at Špica in Celje, bridge over Sava in Krško, and the parallel pedestrian bridge to highway bridge over the Krka river.

Dr. Viktor Markelj (1958) is a Partner, Managing Director and a Senior Bridge designer of Ponting Bridges. His notable bridges include the Ada Bridge in Belgrade (2012), Puh Bridge in Ptuj (2007), already mentioned Pedestrian drawbridge in Gdansk, Bridge over Mura River (2003) and viaducts Lešnica (2007, 2010). A winner of many awards for his engineering expertise and a lecturer that passes the knowledge to future generations at University of Maribor.

The two-day congress includes an overview of cycling infrastructure and cycling tourism by Slovenian regions, as well as the challenges of designing and building cycling infrastructure.
