The Viaduct Vinjan superstructure is close to completion

Currently, the span closures are being cast at the Vinjan viaduct, the superstructure is thus close to completion. The 620 m long railway viaduct crosses the Vinjan valley. The viaduct is part of the new railway line Divača – Koper (Slovenia), its construction began in March 2022.

The viaduct is being built by balanced cantilever technology. The span lengths are 60 to 100 meters and piers height up to 55 m. Due to a major landslide in the area, a complex deep foundation on 40 m deep wells, with a diameter of 10 m was carried out.

The Vinjan viaduct is one of the three viaducts on the route of the new railway line Divača – Koper, together with viaducts Gabrovica and Glinščica. The new railway line will be operational by 2026.

The project was prepared by Design Joint Venture Ponting Bridges and Pipenbaher Consulting Engineers, the author and the main designer is Dr.h.c. Marjan Pipenbaher, MSCE. The works are being carried out by Kolektor.
