Construction of the new Ressel Bridge over the Krka River in Mršeča vas near Šentjernej has been completed. The new 68-metre-long bridge represents a significant infrastructure improvement for the local community, replacing the temporary pontoon bridge that has served as a substitute for the former wooden bridge since 2014. At the same time, reconstruction works are underway on the local road connecting Šentjernej and Zameško. The project includes the construction of a new pedestrian walkway, stormwater drainage system, and public lighting. Once all works are completed, the new bridge and its connecting roads will provide a modern, safe, and permanent transport link between the two banks of the Krka River. The bridge is designed as an integral structure with three spans. The superstructure is a trapeze concrete girder with a height of 1.25 meters. The support structure consists of two abutments and two intermediate supports in the Krka riverbed.
Intermediate supports are hydraulically formed columns with external dimensions of 3.50/1.00 m. The foundation of the bridge is entirely up to 25 m deep, using piles with a diameter of 1.20 m.
The bridge's design is elevated by an expanded central viewing platform, inviting passersby to pause and admire the Krka River. Incorporating a wooden fence that echoes local architectural heritage, the structure establishes a unique and culturally grounded identity.
The solution for the new Ressel Bridge was developed by the Ponting engineering office. As part of the design process, we conducted a study to identify the most suitable bridging option for this specific location.
The project was commissioned by the Municipality of Šentjernej, with construction works carried out by CGP d.d.
The ceremonial opening of the new Ressel Bridge, together with the connecting roads, is scheduled to take place as part of the Jernejevo municipal festival celebrations between 17 and 21 August 2026.
