The new Julija’s footbridge in Novo mesto officially open

The new pedestrian and cycle bridge over the Krka River in Novo mesto was officially opened on Monday. The bridge is situated in a place with a picturesque view of the Breg and the Kapiteljska church, where the silhouette of the Novo mesto is the most representative.

The footbridge was opened by Novo mesto City Mayor Gregor Macedoni, director of Ponting and Pipenbaher Consulting Engineers Marjan Pipenbaher, director of Atelier arhitekti Jurij Kobe and board member of CGP Edo Škufca. A few days earlier, Municipality of Novo mesto revealed the name for the bridge, following the public suggestions - Julija’s footbridge (Julijina brv).

The footbridge is designed as a steady line across the Krka River, which rests on the single support in the middle of the riverbed and thus relates to the designs of the old railway bridge and the newer Kandija bridge. In the middle, the footbridge also has an extended viewing platform for resting and enjoying the view in the direction of the picturesque Breg and Kapitelj.

The steel structure of the footbridge is 121.5 meters long and 4.3 meters wide. It is located right next to the estuary of Težka Voda creek and Krka River, where there is a small entrance square. A ramp and stairs connect the other, left bank to the Župančič promenade.

An interesting transparent fence with a handle, which has in addition an informative character, has also been installed on the bridge. Images of all the fish that live in the Krka River are imprinted on the handle.

The structural and architectural bridge concept and complete design was prepared by Pipenbaher Consulting Engineers, Ponting Bridges and Atelierarhitekti offices. The works were carried out by the contractor CGP Novo mesto, the Investor of the project is the city municipality of Novo mesto.
