The construction of the new main road G1-2 between Formin and Ormož has entered its most demanding phase. Recently, the contractor successfully concreted the second of 10 planned segments for the future bridge over the Formin HPP canal. Concreting took place on the left intermediate support. The bridge over the canal with a water depth of 8 to 14 m is being built using cantilever construction technology with spans of 77.5 m + 114 m + 77.5 m. The construction of the main two-lane road from Markovci to Ormož has been underway since August 2024. On the 16.09 km long section, in addition to the bridge over the Formin HPP canal, Ponting Bridges also designed the already completed, 195 m long
Sejanca viaduct and the 83 m long Ormož overpass. The new section will significantly improve the transport system in the Podravska region and traffic safety.
The construction of the already completed Sejanca viaduct was suspended in 2009 due to the economic crisis and the collapse of the main contractor. Due to changed conditions and the reconstruction of the railway line, it was necessary to change the primary design of the viaduct. Designed by Ponting, the viaduct was built in 2020 and competed in 2025, enabling the construction site traffic and the delivery of bulk material from the Sejanca viaduct to the Formin hydroelectric power plant canal.
The contractor of the works is a consortium of companies Pomgrad, VOC Celje and Cestno podjetje Ptuj, the investor is the Motorway Company of the Republic of Slovenia (DARS), and the engineer is DRI Ljubljana. The section is expected to be completed in early 2027.
