Season's Greetings

As the year draws to a close, we take the opportunity to look back at what we have achieved together with our partners and clients.

In June, the works on the new pedestrian and cyclist bridge over the Savinja River at Špica in Celje were completed. The bridge, with a span of 76.0 meters, is designed as a simply-supported arch "Vierendeel" girder. The girder’s structural height varies due to the arch-shaped upper chord, ranging from just 1.5 meters at the ends to 6.0 meters at the midspan. The vertical members are spaced 4.0 meters apart and aligned centrically (radially) relative to the curvature of the upper chord. At the supports, shear is transferred using perforated sheet metal, which gives the bridge its recognizable character. The superstructure's bottom chord is strengthened by a composite Hi-Bond deck-slab, adding also to the dynamic stability of the slender bridge.

In September, the Ceršak pedestrian and cycling bridge, which connects Slovenia and Austria across the River Mura in Ceršak, was officially opened. The bridge consists of two parallel 87.6-meter long glulam timber girders, suspended with high-strength FLC-cables, via steel frames and tension-rods. The Full Locked Coil bearing cables are attached at the tips of the V-shaped concrete pylons at the abutments, on either side of the Mura River. The wooden bearing structure is structurally weather-protected with wooden panels, anti-insect nets and stainless-steel lids. The deck is also wooden.

In Celje, the construction of a new, 110-meter-long bridge over the Savinja River began, a significant step in reducing the risk of flooding in Celje. The bridge will improve local hydraulics during high stages of the Savinja River, while improving transport infrastructure and connectivity within the local community. The new bridge at Polule will span the Savinja River with a large main steel span without supports in the riverbed and with two end inundation spans that extend into the roundabout on the right bank and the curve of the road on the left bank.

Construction of the new two-level experiential bridge Muste began in Ljubljana. With a span of 72 metres, the bridge will cross the Ljubljanica River and provide an important connection between Štepanjsko naselje and Nove Fužine. The bridge is conceived as a multifunctional public space rather than merely a crossing structure. It is intended for pedestrians and cyclists, with the bridge deck divided into pathways along the outer edges and a central zone spanned by the shallow arch, from which the lower structure is suspended. Beneath the arch, a space for rest and events will be created, while above it a curved ramp will offer visitors additional viewpoints and an enhanced experiential journey.

The works on the Ressel Bridge over the Krka River in Mršeča vas progressed. The new, 68 m long bridge will replace the temporary pontoon bridge, which replaced the old wooden bridge in 2014. It will enable better traffic flow, increase safety and better connectivity within the local community. The bridge is designed as an integral structure with three spans. The structure provides an expanded viewing platform in the middle, which allows people to pause and take in the view of the Krka River, and relates to local tradition with a wooden fence.
