As the year draws to a close, we take the opportunity to look back at what we have achieved together with our partners and clients. In February, the ceremonial opening of
Vinjan Viaduct took place, marking the completion of the main construction works. Viaduct Vinjan is one of three Viaducts on a complex route of the new Koper–Divača railway line. The 620 m long railway viaduct crosses the Vinjan valley. The viaduct was built by balanced cantilever technology. The span lengths are 60 to 100 meters and piers height up to 55 m.
In May, a ceremony was held to mark the railway overhaul completion between Maribor and Šentilj. The project includes a 912.6-meter-long and relatively low railway
viaduct Pesnica, the longest in Slovenia. It is designed as a series of frame structures connected into an integral structure without bearings. This design concept allows the implementation of a continuous welded rail track (CWR) without expansion joints, with great advantages in terms of traffic safety, economy, sustainability and noise emissions.
Also in May, the grand opening celebration of the
Observation tower Kristal in Rogaška Slatina took place. More than two thousand visitors gathered to celebrate the grand opening of the new tourist attraction, which was built in two years. The 106 meters high observation tower with a closed two-storey viewing platform and an open outdoor rooftop observatory is now the tallest building in Slovenia of its kind.
In June, construction began on the suspension
footbridge Ceršak, which will connect Slovenia and Austria and will be the main cycling link over the bordering Mura River. The bridge will consist of two parallel glulam timber beams, suspended with high-strength steel cables, via steel frames. The steel ropes will be attached to pylons of massive concrete abutments, on either side of the Mura River. The total length of the bridge, approach ramps included, is approximately 96 meters.
In August, work was completed on the
Škalsko jezero viaduct, the first of five Ponting viaducts on the so-called northern third development highway axis, from Velenje to Slovenj Gradec. The Škalsko jezero viaduct will run above the roundabout, the connecting road and the cycle path. It will cross the roundabout about 5 m above the final ground level. The viaduct consists of two independent structures 105 m long.
In August, we celebrated the start of construction of the
Ressel Bridge over the Krka River in Mršeča vas. The new, 68 m long bridge will replace the current temporary pontoon bridge, which replaced the old wooden bridge in 2014. It will enable better traffic flow, increase safety and better connectivity within the local community. The bridge is designed as an integral structure with three spans. The structure provides an expanded viewing platform in the middle, which allows people to pause and take in the view of the Krka River, and relates to local tradition with a wooden fence.
In November, the steel structure of a new
bridge over the Savinja River at Špica was installed in Celje. The bridge steel structure, measuring 76.6 meters in length and weighing 127 tons, was transported from a nearby construction site using a 750-ton mobile crane, lifted, and placed into its final position. The bridge structure was lifted and placed on its final bearings in a single piece, eliminating the need for temporary intermediate supports in the Savinja riverbed. The bridge, designed as a simply-supported arch "Vierendeel" girder, is expected to be completed in the first half of next year.
