Season's Greetings

As the year draws to a close, we take the opportunity to look back at what we have achieved together with our partners and clients.

In June, the official opening of the footbridge over Krka River took place in Irča vas, Slovenia. The pedestrian and cycle bridge is designed as a stress-ribbon bridge with 130 m span. The bridge superstructure is 4 meter wide and only 42 cm thick. The span structure consists of 46 prefabricated segments, installed on fully tensioned bearing cables.

In August, the new Pesnica railway viaduct opened to traffic. A relatively low, 912.6-meter-long double-track railway viaduct is the longest in Slovenia. It is designed as a series of frame structures connected into an integral structure without bearings. This design concept allows the implementation of a continuous welded rail track (CWR) without expansion joints, with great advantages in terms of traffic safety, economy, sustainability and noise emissions.

The official opening of Julija’s footbridge, the new pedestrian and cycle bridge over the Krka River in Novo mesto, took place in October. The footbridge is designed as a steady line across the Krka River, which rests on the single support in the middle of the riverbed. The steel structure of the footbridge is 121.5 meters long and 4.3 meters wide.

At the construction site of the Kristal Tower in Rogaška Slatina, the concrete pour of a two-story, symmetric designed observation deck has begun in October on the top of the 106 meters high observation tower. It will become the tallest building in Slovenia, and will open its doors to visitors in 2024.

In December, the incremental launching works were completed at the 424 m long railway Viaduct Gabrovica on the new railway line Divača - Koper (Slovenia). Unique prestressed concrete U-shaped superstructure (assuring noise and buffeting wind protection) with spans of 64 m was launched over up to 64 m high piers without auxiliary supports.

Viaduct Vinjan is also part of the new railway line Divača – Koper. Currently, the span closures are being cast, the superstructure is thus close to completion. The 620 m long railway viaduct crosses the Vinjan valley. The viaduct is being built by balanced cantilever technology. The span lengths are 60 to 100 meters and piers height up to 55 m.

On-site construction works at the pedestrian and cyclist bridge over Savinja River at Špica in Celje are partially completed. The entire substructure of the bridge (piles and abutments) has been completed, awaiting installation of the steel structure, scheduled for March 2024. Currently, the steel structure of the bridge is being manufactured in the workshop. The footbridge, designed as a simply supported arch ˝Vierendeel˝ beam, will have a total length of 86.6 m.

A big thank you to all our previous, current and future clients, partners and followers for making our favourite moments from 2023 possible. From all of us at Ponting Bridges: Happy holidays and best wishes for the new year 2024!
