Ponting Bridges Project manager and Bridge designer Rok Mlakar will speak about the design, construction and competition experiences of bascule footbridge in Gdansk, at the Footbridge 2022 Conference in Madrid. The presentation will be part of the session “Competitions” and will take place live on September 7, 2022. Dušan Rožič, Project manager and Senior Bridge designer of Ponting Bridges and the co-author of the project, will also attend the conference.The pedestrian and cycling bridge over the River Motława connects Gdańsk’s Old Town and the island of Ołowianka and provides, among others, access to the Baltic Philharmonic and parts of the Maritime Museum. In terms of structural systems, the bridge is divided into two parts. The first is designed as a reinforced concrete integral structure with a span of 13,25 meters. The second, movable part of the bridge is designed as a single leaf drawbridge with a span of 40 meters.
Rok Mlakar (1976) is a Project manager and Bridge designer of Ponting Bridges. Among his most important projects are the award-winning pedestrian bridges, namely the pedestrian bridge in Gdańsk (2017), the Marinič Bridge in Škocjan Caves (2010) and the Studenci footbridge in Maribor (2007), as well as highway bridges K1 and L211 Gleinalmtunnel in Austria (2018), Ernest Faber Bridge in Coburg, Germany (2017) and the bridge over Savinja in Laško (2021).
Dušan Rožič (1965) is a Project manager and Senior Bridge designer of Ponting Bridges. Besides the pedestrian drawbridge in Gdańsk (2017), he worked as a designer and responsible designer on many bridges. The most notable are Bridge over Mura River (2003), Puh Bridge in Ptuj (2007), the bridge over hydroelectric power plant Blanca (2009), Viaduct Grobelno (2015), Footbridge Tremerje (2018) and the bridge over Sava at Žadovinek (2019).
The authors of the project are dr. Viktor Markelj, Rok Mlakar and Dušan Rožič. The presentation was prepared by Rok Mlakar and dr. Viktor Markelj (1958), Partner, Managing Director and a Senior Bridge designer of Ponting Bridges.
