Yesterday, the new Ressel Bridge over the Krka River was ceremoniously opened in Mršeča vas near Šentjernej. The new 68-metre-long bridge represents an important infrastructure improvement for the local community, replacing the temporary pontoon bridge that has been in use since 2014 following the deterioration of the former wooden bridge. The construction of the modern concrete bridge, featuring a wooden railing, has restored a safe and permanent traffic connection between the two banks of the Krka River.The bridge was officially opened by the Mayor of the Municipality of Šentjernej, Jože Simončič; Martin Gosenca, President of the Management Board of CGP d.d.; Jernej Maher, Bridge project Manager at Ponting Bridges; and Franc Zaman, the oldest resident of Hrvaški Brod, and Anica Barič from Mršeča Vas, residents of the villages connected by the new bridge. The ceremonial opening of the new Ressel Bridge took place as part of the celebration of the municipal holiday, Jernejevo.
The bridge is designed as an integral prestessed structure with three spans. The superstructure is a trapeze concrete girder with a height of 1.25 meters. The support structure consists of two abutments and two intermediate supports in the Krka riverbed.
Intermediate supports are hydraulically formed columns with external dimensions of 3.50/1.00 m. The foundation of the bridge is entirely up to 25 m deep, using piles with a diameter of 1.20 m.
The width of the bridge is designed to reflect the character of the peaceful rural environment and its role as a local transport connection. The narrower carriageway is intended to accommodate local traffic while discouraging its use as a major inter-urban or heavy-traffic route.
A distinctive feature of the bridge is the widened viewing platform in the middle of the structure, providing a place to rest and enjoy views of the Krka River. By incorporating a wooden railing that echoes local architectural heritage, the structure establishes a unique and culturally grounded identity. The Ressel monument will be installed on the viewing platform at a later date.
The solution for the new Ressel Bridge was developed by the Ponting engineering office. As part of the design process, we conducted a study to identify the most suitable bridging option for this specific location.
The project was commissioned by the Municipality of Šentjernej, with construction works carried out by CGP d.d.
