The grand opening celebration of the Observation tower Kristal in Rogaška Slatina (Slovenia) took place on Thursday, 23. May 2024. More than two thousand visitors gathered to celebrate the grand opening of the new tourist attraction, which was built in two years. The 106 meters high observation tower with a closed two-storey viewing platform and an open outdoor rooftop observatory is now the tallest building in Slovenia of its kind. The tower was opened by Rogaška Slatina mayor Branko Kidrič, director general of the Tourism Directorate at the Ministry of the Economy, Tourism and Sport Dubravka Kalin and former Minister of Economy Zdravko Počivalšek. At the event, special thanks from the municipality were given to the companies that actively participated in the construction, namely engineering office Ponting as designer, Uniprojekt as supervisor and VG5 as contractor.
2,600 m
3 of concrete was built into the tower, of which 635 m
3 in the foundation and 1,415 m
3 in the column. The reinforced concrete consists of 400 tons of steel reinforcement. Approx. 500 m
2 of glass surfaces make up the tower's top glass facade. The elevator takes 34 seconds to travel to the top, and there are also 594 steps leading to the top open terrace.
A two-story, symmetric designed observation deck, shaped as an abstract crystal form, houses the cafe, the Panorama floor and the outdoor deck. The tower provides views of Rogaška Slatina and its surroundings and will further diversify the offer of the town, known for its mineral water, health resorts and glassworks.
The tower was designed by Ponting Bridges and Korpnik produkcija, the contractor was VG5, and the investor municipality of Rogaška Slatina. In the immediate vicinity of the tower, Ponting bridges also designed the
overpass Sonce, built exclusively for pedestrians and cyclists, providing a safe connection between the Rogaška Slatina promenade and the foothills of Tržaški hrib, where also the Kristal Tower is located.
