Installation of the main and largest steel structure segment of the overpass Sonce

Installation of the largest steel structure segment of the new overpass Sonce took place today in Rogaška Slatina, Slovenia. A 49-meter-long and 46-tonnes heavy tied-arc span across the main regional road and railway was placed on temporary supports. The installation was carried out by the Contractors Adriaplan and Petrič without any difficulties or delay.

In the coming weeks, the rest of the 177.5-meter-long and 3.5-meter-wide overpass structure will be installed and welded together at the construction site, gradually following the installation of supports. Ponting Bridges are the designers of the new pedestrian and cyclist overpass.

The construction of the overpass Sonce started in October 2021. The overpass will connect the Rogaška Slatina’s old spa area with the Trieste hill, where works already started on a 106 meters tall observation tower Kristal, and a larger P+R car park. The overpass will serve as a new, safe bike and walking trail for the local community, and is expected to be completed in 2022.
