Foundation stone ceremony for the Kristal observation tower

On Monday, a ceremony marked the placement of the foundation stone for the new observation tower Kristal in Rogaška Slatina, Slovenia. The event was attended by the Minister of Economic Development and Technology Zdravko Počivalšek and the Mayor of Rogaška Slatina Branko Kidrič. Highlights of the ceremony included placing the foundation stone, short cultural program and various speeches by the dignitary. The construction works are expected to be completed in March 2023, with official opening planned for July 2023.

A 106-meter high observation tower was designed by Ponting Bridges and Korpnik produkcija. It is designed as a tall concrete pier-like structure with polygonal cross section with a two-storey symmetrically designed observation deck at the top, shaped as an abstract crystal form. The viewing platform will also contain several tourist and catering facilities, and will be accessible by panoramic elevator. The tower will offer views of Rogaška Slatina and its surroundings and will further diversify the offer of the city, known for its mineral water, health resort and glassworks.

Upon completion of the construction, the tower with a two-storey viewing platform and an outdoor rooftop observatory will become the tallest building in Slovenia. The investment value of the project is 4.050.000 euros.

Nearby, Ponting also designed the overpass Sonce, which will be completed in 2022.
