Dr. Viktor Markelj awarded for engineering excellence from the Chamber of Engineers of Slovenia
Senior Bridge designer and director of Ponting Bridges, Dr. Viktor Markelj, received the Engineering Excellence Award, the highest professional recognition of the Chamber of Engineers of Slovenia (IZS). The award ceremony took place on 28. November 2024, as part of the Day of the Chamber of Engineers of Slovenia 2024, at the Cukrarna in Ljubljana.
IZS president mag. Črtomir Remec presented dr. Markelj with the award for his engineering excellence and contribution to Slovenian civil engineering and for inspiring the next generations of engineers.
Dr. Viktor Markelj (1958) is a Partner, Managing Director and a Senior Bridge designer of Ponting Bridges. His notable bridges include the Ada Bridge in Belgrade (2012), Puh Bridge in Ptuj (2007), Pedestrian drawbridge in Gdansk (2017), Bridge over Mura River (2003) and Railway viaduct Pesnica (2023). A winner of many awards for his engineering expertise and a lecturer that passes the knowledge to future generations at University of Maribor.
IZS represents and protects the interests of the profession and licensed engineers and is an advisory body to state authorities, state administration and universities. The Chamber represents more than 7,000 licensed engineers of various professions related to the construction of buildings and spatial planning.
