Contract signed for the construction of observation tower Kristal

On Tuesday, the Municipality of Rogaška Slatina signed a contract with the chosen contractor, the company VG5, for the construction of an observation tower in Rogaška Slatina, Slovenia. A 106-meter high observation tower was designed by Ponting Bridges and Korpnik produkcija. The works will start later this month and are expected to be completed in March 2023, with official opening planned for July 2023.

The observation tower is designed as a tall concrete pier-like structure with polygonal cross section with a two-storey symmetrically designed observation deck at the top, shaped as an abstract crystal form. The viewing platform will also contain several tourist and catering facilities, and will be accessible by panoramic elevator. The tower will offer views of Rogaška Slatina and its surroundings and will further diversify the offer of the city, known for its mineral water, health resort and glassworks.

Upon completion of the construction, the tower with a two-storey viewing platform and an outdoor rooftop observatory will become the tallest building in Slovenia. The investment value of the project is 4.050.000 euros.

Nearby, Ponting also designed the overpass Sonce, which has been under construction since October of last year. A 177.5-meter long and 3.5-meter wide overpass will serve as a new, safe bike and walking trail for the local community. The transparent steel structure will have one larger, 43-meter-long span across the road and railway. The overpass Sonce will connect the Rogaška Slatina’s old spa area with the Trieste hill, where, in addition to the planned observation tower, a larger P+R parking space will soon be built. The overpass will be completed in 2022.
