The Municipality of Novo mesto has signed a contract with the chosen contractor, the company CGP d.d., for the construction of a new bridge for pedestrians and cyclists Loka-Kandija in Novo mesto, Slovenia. The works will start at the end of October, and the new bridge is expected to be completed by the end of next year.The footbridge is designed as a steady line across the Krka River, which rests on the single support in the middle of the riverbed and thus relates to the designs of the old railway bridge and the newer Kandija bridge. In the middle, the footbridge will also have an extended viewing platform for resting and enjoying the view in the direction of the picturesque Breg and Kapitelj.
The steel structure of the footbridge will be 121.5 meters long and 4.3 meters wide. It will be located right next to the estuary of Težka Voda creek and Krka River, where there will also be a small entrance square. A ramp and stairs will connect the other, left bank to the Župančič promenade.
Structural and architectural solution of the new footbridge over Krka was prepared by design offices Ponting, Pipenbaher Consulting Engineers and Atelierarhitekti.
It is the second ongoing project for Ponting and Pipenbaher Consulting Engineers in the Municipality of Novo mesto, as the construction of the nearby
foot and cycle bridge in Irča vas began in July this year. The bridge will be without supports in the riverbed and will bridge the Krka River in a single span length of 120.5 meters. Also, complete documentation is prepared for the third (and the largest) project in the area, the new
highway bridge with a parallel pedestrian bridge over Krka River. The bridge, which is 2 x 11.25 m wide and has a total length of 490 m, will bridge the Krka River with a main span of 135 m.
A parallel stress-ribbon bridge will carry the pedestrian and cyclists traffic over the river Krka in a single span of 135 m.
