Construction finally started on site of the new foot- and cycle bridge Špica over the Savinja River in Celje (Slovenia). The new footbridge will have a span of 76 m and is designed as a low-arched Vierendeel truss girder. The bearing composite steel/concrete structure consists of two parallel steel, outwards inclined and free standing, 6.5 m deep Vierendeel truss girders and a solid, only 18 cm thick, Hi-Bond bridge deck concrete plate. The width of the bridge, between the railings, amounts 3.5 m.At the site, the pile foundations of the concrete abutments are currently being carried out; meanwhile the workshop production of the steel structure has also started.
The new footbridge Špica is due to be finalized until the end of the year.
