Construction start of the new footbridge Špica over Savinja in Celje

Construction finally started on site of the new foot- and cycle bridge Špica over the Savinja River in Celje (Slovenia). The new footbridge will have a span of 76 m and is designed as a low-arched Vierendeel truss girder. The bearing composite steel/concrete structure consists of two parallel steel, outwards inclined and free standing, 6.5 m deep Vierendeel truss girders and a solid, only 18 cm thick, Hi-Bond bridge deck concrete plate. The width of the bridge, between the railings, amounts 3.5 m.

At the site, the pile foundations of the concrete abutments are currently being carried out; meanwhile the workshop production of the steel structure has also started.

The new footbridge Špica is due to be finalized until the end of the year.
